Did you know that a bat can pretend to die?

With the participation in the 44th year of the East Slovak nature conservation camp, we undertook an exploratory mist-netting of bats at the ford of the stream. Different species of bats were presented to camp participants.
After being caught in the net, this adorable little common pipistrelle decided to choose this very defensive strategy, professionally called tanatosis. It is a protective attitude of an animal that stagnates in danger and looks dead. It thus becomes an unattractive prey for a potential predator.
